the lightning split the sky,
and I stood
in awe of the numinous scene before me
as heaven rent
and rained down a deluge of broken dreams.
captured them in my hands
one by one
and felt every empty tormented shame,
the loss of love,
the loss of freedom,
the loss of hope,
and oh the weight of loss afflicted me.
I cried out in lamenting resonance
in desperate anguish
for the forgotten souls.
I pleaded and petitioned on their behalf
that they would indeed
their own worth,
the value of hope,
and that they would believe in love anew.
I implored that they would rise to stand,
and be freed from their self-confined oubliette.
That their ceiling would be their floor once again.
For them to move and loose these chains that
had been encumbering them for so long.
The storm then suspired.
The heavens began their mend.
And I, to my knees began lifting high each dream
back into the firmament.
There are days when the floor seems like it just opens up, you fall in the trap, and the floor is now your ceiling. You're imprisoned within an oubliette.
These are the days that discourage us most. We have risen. We have climbed. We have accomplished, and then it's all for nothing. We're back where we started. Love is gone (or left or never was real.) Dreams have been denied, broken, stolen, and hope has become hopeless. We feel abandoned, forsaken, confused, and alone.
Let me tell you, this is just a moment in time, just a season, just temporary if you fight. If you give up, this is your reality and permanent. Therefore, never stop fighting, never stop believing, never lose hope, never look down at your feet waiting for the next trap door. Always keep your eyes up, climb to the top of that prison and break yourself free. Always do the things that keep your hopes high! Always give love because love has a way of returning in some form.
